[:es]“BUJARALOZ” estrenado por el Arts Quartet (Auditori Mompou, Barcelona, 16.10.2013)[:]


Dentro de la PROGRAMACIÓN DE LA TEMPORADA MÚSICA D’ARA 2013, 16 de Octubre a las 20h, en el Auditori Mompou de la SGAE, Concierto a cargo del “Arts Quartet” (Cristian CHIVU – 1er violí, Liviu MORNA – 2on violí, Paul CORTESE – viola, Magdalena CRISTEA – violoncel).

In February 1993, the folk group «Somerondón» gave a conference on traditional apparel and clothes in Bujaraloz (a village situated in the Montegro Dessert), giving existence to «The dance of the Bagpipe» («El Baile de la Gaita»), which was at the time being recovered by members of the «Cultural Association Balcardosa».
It use to be danced on August the 4th and 5th and it praised the «Virgin of the Snow» (housed at the nearby little church) and was played by Wineskin Bagpipes. The celebration was organised by the «Cofradìa de la Calle Baja» whose prior,
Josè Pallarès, taught the dance to the young men of the village, which means that instead of being forgotten, the dance
has been interpretedagain since 1993. While the Bagpipe ́s Dance is sounding, the couples are going out to the way, forming circles that turn anticlockwise, and finishing with the second part of the melody, with opposing pairs dancing
Later the circle breaks and each couple continues dancing independently. In turn new circles are formed. The Tune has been re-interpreted and adapted to the model of «Gaita de boto de Robres», in the tonality of C minor.
This String Quartet piece is based on that melody. The motivation has been the search of a forgotten identity, which survives somehow in memory through the works of art. The Region of Bujaraloz is located in Monegro ́s Dessert, crossed by a Highway. But keeping attention to the natural rural landscapes, we could see that cultural identity beyond. The first picture represents a quiet night in the middle of Monegro`s dry Dessert, which keeps the memory of a muslim & jewish convivence,
hidden behind a misterious rumour (Low pianìsimo melody, hard harmonies). The wind lets us discover that forgotten hidden culture (cold harmonies moved by tremollos).In the middle of the night, far away, a misterious melody comes closer and closer, searching the «main theme»(kept like a secret treasure). This melody turn the light on in the middle of darkness. After, a second theme expresses the nostalgia for past times. The main theme becomes stronger,
but the power of the wind blows everything again, giving place to a «wind episode» full of fluid harmonies and modulations. After the wind episode, we have, of course, the hard Dessert in the «earth episode», after wich nature has to reconcile each element once again.[:]
